
GoPure is a portable water filtration system that introduces a new way to filtrate water
The Mission
Our goal was to design a portable water filtration system that uses new filter type made of clay. We designed all the major components to be injection molded. I started working with two of my fellow students; Tuomas Nurmi and Meri Miettinen.
The Solution
We first gathered information about the current water filtration devices. We did some research on current filtration devices and how they worked. Many of them require pumping, and pumping large amounts of water is laborious with small handheld pumps. So we started playing with the thought of what if the water just got filtrated while you sit and wait?
So we designed a bottle which can filtrate the water while you sit and wait.
With this solution the user is able to produce the required amount of pressure with minimal effort.
Production
We really wanted think carefully about the producibility of GoPure. The system was designed so that all the major components are injection molded. Only few O-rings and the mouth piece of the cap could be bought from a third party. These factors make GoPure a very inexpensive product to produce.

3D Printed Prototype
We printed life sized 3D printed model. We wondered whether the seat became strong enough to withstand the weight of a person. The rib structure designed inside the seat made it really sturdy. The snap joint worked just like intended in the prototype. Cylinder and a pistonlike water bottle also slided smoothly together.
